Two teens from Jersey City were arrested after hitting a pair of occupied Secaucus police cars in a stolen Jeep, police say. A third suspect is still on the run.
Authorities say the teens were spotted Monday at Sunoco Gas Station on Route 3 East in a stolen Jeep Wrangler. When backup officers arrived, police say the 15-year-old driver of the Jeep intentionally rammed two occupied police cars to escape. One police officer was hurt and suffered a knee injury.
The driver and two passengers then ran off on foot. The front seat passenger, a 16-year-old male of Jersey City was arrested a short distance away. The 15-year-old driver was pursued by police on foot onto Route 3 and was arrested.
Police say the third suspect, the rear seat passenger, entered a marked police car and sped off. They say officers pursued the stolen Secaucus police unit through Jersey City, Kearny and Newark. The stolen police car was later found in Hillside. The suspect remains at large.
