Natural Features Description:

This natural area contains mature shortleaf pines and a variety of plant species tolerant of acidic, droughty soils. These plants include low bush blueberry, farkleberry, dittany, deerberry, flax-leaved aster and bracken fern. In the spring and summer the song and call of the pine warbler is a common sound.

Access Info

This natural area is within Montauk State Park. From the intersection of Highway 63 and Highway 32, head east on Highway 32. In less than a half-mile, turn right (south) on to Main Street (Highway 137). Follow Highway 137 out of town and in about 2 miles head left (east) on to Highway W. Follow Highway W for nearly 10 miles to a “T” intersection with Highway 119. Turn right (east) and follow Highway 119 into the park. Follow the signs to the park office. Inquire at the office about access to the natural area. A hiking trail does provide access to the natural area.
