ALAMO HEIGHTS, Texas - "Life is going to hit you with bumps in the road, so you have to have many opportunities."

The observation is both true - and beyond mature. And it's exactly what you'd expect from two of the best and brightest from Alamo Heights.

Consider opportunities made for both Talaiyah Andrews and Jordan Tetro. Both graduates made the most of their high school experience.

Talaiyah won big as student athlete. All district. Academic all-district. And captain of a basketball team that won 25 games this year - the most in school history.

"When I describe a captain, it's someone who has experience with challenging things, and knowing everybody on the team and keeping everybody intact."

Jordan Tetro has game too. Serious classroom game.

What kind of grades we talking?

"All A's....4.0," explained Jordan. "Yeah, I worked hard for it."

His last B came his sophomore year in math. When he spent weeks in the ICU because of an inflamed heart.

"I almost died my sophomore year."

Both have a knack for teaching. Talaiyah works at youth basketball camps. Jordan teaches Spanish to elementary school kids.

"Spanish is my first language, so teaching kids my native language is something like, wow, I never thought I'd be able to do that," said Jordan.

Both see a future in medicine. But the opportunities are endless because both value who they are as much as what they can do.

"I want to be remembered as a kind person. I try to be nice to people. I'm a hard worker. I'm a listener. I want to be remembered as someone who will be there for people and a hard worker - not just on the court, but in school too," said Talaiyah.

"I want people to know that despite all the adversity and tribulations, I overcame that. And that I'm a strong type of person," said Jordan.

Both are going to college on scholarship. Talaiyah earned a basketball scholarship from Texas A&M San Antonio. Jordan is headed to the University of Texas on an academic scholarship.
