WASHINGTON - The Biden Administration is setting a new goal of ending the HIV/Aids epidemic by 2030.

Officials released a five-year strategy in recognition of World Aids Day. They say they want to close gaps in treatments for certain groups like adolescent girls, young women, and children. But they point out that progress has been made.

President Biden’s emergency plan for aids relief, known as Pep-Far, says it's supported treatment for more than 20 million men, women, and children as of Sept. 30.

“These numbers, to so many of us, are yes, big numbers, but they're distractions. These are real lives. These are real stories. Stories again, that would've ended, but instead continued,” said Anthony Blinken, Secretary of State.

Pep-Far also reports more than five million babies were prevented from being born with HIV.
