3.9-magnitude earthquake hits Fall City, Texas, 13th quake reported over last month

FALLS CITY, Texas - Seismic activity is almost becoming a daily occurrence for those South Central Texas.

A 3.9-magnitude earthquake struck just after midnight Thursday about three miles Northeast of Falls City, Texas.

A small 2.2 quake hit on Tuesday night just outside Poth, Texas, while a 4.7-magnitude earthquake was recorded on Feb. 17 about 40 miles southeast of San Antonio.

Experts say oil and gas drilling and extraction is largely responsible for the growing number of Texas earthquakes.

This is the 13th earthquake to hit over the last month near Falls City, which is about 45 miles southeast of San Antonio.

According to the United States Geological Survey, there were 39 earthquakes reported on Thursday around the globe, with seven of those hitting North America.
