UPDATE | Two killed in officer-involved shooting at Market Square identified

**********************************************************

Fiesta celebrations came to a violent end late Saturday night.

It was just after midnight when San Antonio Police Chief William McManus says two men opened fire on each other in Market Square. One died. Officers returned fire on the other suspect, killing him.

According to SAPD, officers patrolling near the stage at Conch Alley heard gunfire and witnessed an 18-year-old fleeing the scene. Two officers pursued the 18-year-old, who allegedly turned and fired a handgun at a 20-year-old man, striking him. The officers returned fire, striking the 18-year-old.

Police say the 18-year-old was pronounced dead on the scene and the 20-year-old was transported to the hospital where he died.

“We have a very busy crime scene here. We had two individuals open fire on each other right in the middle of Margarita Alley," explained Chief McManus. "So two individuals that were shooting at each other. One is dead on the scene. The other was transported to the hospital, and he was just pronounced dead."

McManus says four innocent bystanders were shot as well. Two were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The other two were treated at the scene.

No word on what prompted the shooting or the names of anyone involved.

"The two individuals that were shot were young men. Both were armed and shooting at each other," said McManus. "There were two weapons recovered at the scene. One is next to the individual who is deceased on the scene. And then there’s another weapon where the other individual was shot – in a flower bed right next to him."

The other suspect was transported to a hospital where they later died.

As today is the last day of Fiesta, people still flocked to Fiesta de los Reyes despite last night's shooting, saying they will not let last night's incident get in the way of their good time.

"It's crazy everywhere, I mean what are you going to do just stay inside and be afraid?" said an event-goer. "I mean you can walk outside and go to the mall and see the same situation."

Although people say they would like to see more security checks, the San Antonio Police Department has seemingly increased their presence tonight.
