FEMA has authorized emergency funds to battle the growing Silver King Fire in Utah that has burned nearly 11,000 acres in Piute County.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency granted Utah's request for fire management assistance late Sunday as the Silver King Fire continued to spread near Marysvale.

Voluntary evacuations were issued for areas near the fire on Saturday.

FEMA determined the blaze posed a significant threat that could escalate to a major disaster.

The fire had scorched over 10,800 acres since igniting July 5, per the Utah Department of Natural Resources most recent update. It remained zero percent contained.

Nearly 300 residences in Marysvale face potential danger from the wildfire, officials said.

The federal grant will cover 75% of eligible state firefighting expenses. Costs may include equipment use, field camps, and supply purchases. The program reimburses expenses but does not provide direct aid to affected property owners.

The authorization also enables Utah to access hazard mitigation funds for projects like creating defensible space and reducing combustible vegetation.
