We saw destruction all throughout the town of 4,400 starting with when we drove into town. On the way into town Monday morning there was emergency personnel blocking off sections of the road before roping off wires that had fallen to ensure no one came into contact with them while live.

Sharon Trainer cleaned up all the debris in her yard once it was safe to be outside again. She explains what it was like walking outside once the storm lifted.

“A lot of the problems driving around that I saw there’s a lot of branches intertwined with the wires and the whole pole all the poles came down,” Trainor said.

As a result of those power poles going down the City of Palacios said there is no working communication with the Sheriff’s Office and Emergency Services.

Our crews also had limited cell signal. They have seen power crews in the area ready to work round the clock to fix everything.

“It was bad,” Longoria said.

Palacios saw several trees and power poles snapped in half as a result of the relentless wind and rain from hurricane Beryl leaving much of the town without power.

“The mileage wasn’t as high as the one years back that we rode out, and this one was real high winds seem like the winds were higher than what they were.”

Longoria said as soon as it was safe he rushed to see how his business had fared.

He said he’s thankful the only repair will be waiting for power to come back.

“Through these types of things you don’t know anything can happen and the expectations— I mean I’ve seen devastation and I turned the corner here and I was like OK. Everything is in place,” Longoria said.

Palacios is one of several cities experiencing power outages. At last check they still had active ones.
