An Amarillo midwife is accused of practicing medicine without a license and causing harm to multiple patients.

Leah Diane Hernandez was arrested Wednesday on felony charges.

She's charged with two counts of practicing medicine without a license.

According to the criminal complaint, in March 2022 and January 2023, she "provided injections, diagnosed a physical disorder and/or injury, provided and rendered a medical opinion or medical advice, determined necessary medical response to a medical condition while not holding a license to practice medicine and caused harm to (the patient) while in the course of said treatment."

There are two victims in this case.

A bond of $10,000 was recommended on each count.

If she's released. Hernandez can't have any contact with the victims, wear a GPS tracking device, remain in Potter and Randall counties, and "abstain from the practice of medicine and midwifery."

In March, two different judges in Travis County issued restraining orders against Hernandez prohibiting her from practicing midwifery without a license and from representing herself as a licensed midwife.

According to the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, her license last expired in December 2021.

The TDLR said she provided care to two different clients during home delivery in 2019. She was fined $7,000 after failing to appear at a hearing in September 2021 or respond to multiple requests for client medical records.
