Light box sign with uppercase letterforms modeled after Davida, for one of the many hairdresser’s shops on Halle’s Leipziger Straße. The sign probably stems from the 1970s or 1980s and hence from GDR times. The photo was taken by Jim Cooper (eastgermanpics) in April 2007. It’s not clear if this sign has survived into 2020.

Detail. The letterforms aren’t taken directly from Davida, but were redrawn with several differences. For example, the bar in F is longer and curls less, R got a triangular counter and doesn’t descend (so that it can ligate with I), the spine of S is diagonal instead of horizontal.
