Welcome to the Open Knowledge Foundation Newsletter.
The Open Knowledge Foundation is happy to share with you the latest updates on our projects, network activities and events as we work to create a fair, free and open future.

2020 will see the 10th anniversary of Open Data Day and we are very happy to announce that the global celebration of open data will take place on Saturday 7th March. Save the date and spread the word using the #OpenDataDay hashtag.
Thanks for the generous support of funders, we will again be running a mini-grants scheme giving between $200 and $300 USD to support great Open Data Day events across the world. Stay tuned for a call for applications in January 2020.

In recent months, our CEO Catherine Stihler has been busy spreading the word about our work. Catherine spoke at the World Library Congress, Doing Data Right conference in Edinburgh, gave a CREATe public lecture on the EU’s disastrous Copyright Directive, reinforced the importance of protecting libraries, moderated a panel on open science during the European Research and Innovation Days and ran a session in the Openness space at the Mozilla Festival.

With your help, we’ll continue to fight for a fair, free and open future where knowledge is shared by all – freely available to everyone, a world where people are able to fulfil their potential and live happy and healthy lives. Donate now to support our work: http://bit.ly/DonatetoOKF

Link Digital, the co-stewards of the CKAN project, recently announced the launch of Datashades.info, a tool designed to deliver insights for researchers, portal managers and the wider tech community to inform and support open data efforts relating to data hosted on CKAN platforms.

• International Open Access Week 2019 took place between 21st and 27th October with the theme of Open for Whom? Equity in Open Knowledge. To reflect on this, our Frictionless Data fellows wrote about what Open Access means to them, why it is important, and especially how people are (positively and negatively) affected by openness in science
