We all watch sitcoms for one thing and one thing only: the hot dads. Wait–you watch sitcoms for the comical misunderstandings, life lessons, destructive neighbors, and Beach Boys cameos? Okay, weirdo, Decider knows that hot dads are really where it’s at.

Come on, what’s adorable than a man who loves his kids even if they sneak out past curfew? What’s more swoon-worthy than a man who knows how to find the moral at the center of hijinks? What’s more admirable than a man who works turns a buffet into a career to provide for his family? What’s sexier than a man who’s confident enough in his masculinity to go full disco diva in a pair of skates and a sequin jumpsuit?

Dads are put through a lot when they’re dropped into TV comedies, and these are the dads that come out the other side looking wise, looking cool, and looking hot. Sit down, readers, because Team Decider has an important lesson to teach all of you… and it’s about the sexiness of sitcom dads.

Actor: Patrick Duffy
Show: Step By Step

Sometimes a sitcom dad can be too sexy. Case in point: Frank Lambert, a construction worker dad played by steamy Dallas hunk Patrick Duffy. The sizzling chemistry between Duffy and fellow ’70s sex symbol Suzanne Somers on Step By Step belonged on late night cable, not TGIF. You just knew Frank, the muskiest of men, and Carol were getting busy somewhere in their crowded house every time they were off-camera–and sometimes their kinky play made its way on-camera.–BW

Actor: John Stamos
Show: Full House

Who woulda thought that a bad boy would be a good dad? His role as the cool uncle (not that Joey gave him any competition) prepared him for his role as a cool dad–and he never lost an ounce of hotness! How many other dads on this list could play the drums in a leather vest? Whether he’s rocking out with the Rippers or giving his twins Nicky and Alex Elvis makeovers, Jesse’s casual cool smile makes everyone proclaim “Have mercy!”–BW

Look, Earn’s not always the most reliable dad, but he is one of the hottest. As he navigates his relationship with Van (Zazie Beetz) and his work with Paperboi (Brian Tyree Henry), he’s hustling to take care of himself and his child. And he looks damn good doing it.–Lea Palmieri

Actor: Jason Bateman
Show: Arrested Development

Michael Bluth may be a little on the neurotic side, but what’s hotter than a dad willing to do anything for his family? Jason Bateman’s Bluth is the quintessential straight man in a BANANAS family, constantly picking up the pieces and trying to make the best out of insane situations, even if it means raining on people’s parades. He may largely be unlucky in love, but the guy is total husband material. (Plus, you gotta love a man who deadpans.)–Jade Budowski

Actor: Bryan Cranston
Show: Malcolm in the Middle

Before he was Walter White (a decidedly unsexy dad thanks to, you know, all the lying and drug dealing and bad hats), Bryan Cranston played it up as a doofy, delightful dad on Malcolm in the Middle. With his know-nothing grin, Sears chic shirts, and high-waisted jeans, Hal isn’t exactly what you’d call “sexy”–at least until you’ve seen him skate his heart out in a sequin jumpsuit to “Funky Town.” A dad with the confidence to strut his stuff on wheels is a dad with sex appeal.–Brett White

Phil Dunphy

TY BURRELL
ABC

Actor: Ty Burrell
Show: Modern Family

Everyone’s eyes may be on Sofía Vergara’s Gloria, but mine are on Burrell’s Phil. What can I say? Phil makes the goofy dad thing work, terrible jokes and all. Sure, he can be kind of dumb and running a magic shop is pretty lame, but Phil owns his quirks, and there’s nothing sexier than confidence. Plus he’s proven that he’s a good dad, and you know he would plan fun date nights. This Modern Family star has made a modern version of masculinity attractive, and that’s pretty cool.–Kayla Cobb

Gomez Addams

ADDAMS FAMILY, John Astin, 1964 - 1966, television.

Actor: John Astin
Show: The Addams Family

Sexiness is baked into the role of the Addams patriarch, whether he’s played with wild-eyed refinement by Raúl Juliá in movies or maniacal charisma by John Astin on TV. As the original Gomez, Astin disrupted the saccharine sitcom scene of the ’60s with his flashy, debonair morbidity. He crashed trains, chomped on cigars, practiced yoga, and had a thing for knives. But the sexiest thing about Gomez (the sexiest TV character in history, IMO), is his utter devotion and all-encompassing adoration of his wife, his bubbelah, his querida. You’d sell your soul to find a man that looks at you the way Gomez looks at Morticia.–BW

Nick Russo

blossom-dad
Hulu

Actor: Ted Wass
Show: Blossom

In the signature bluesy/dancey opening credits for the 1990s NBC sitcom Blossom, Mayim Bialik’s title character does a quick Rockettes number atop the piano played by her on-screen dad, Nick, played by TV vet Ted Wass (formerly of Soap). Nick’s a musician, gigging around L.A. playing the piano wherever they’ll pay him. You get the sense that Nick used to be very hot stuff, but as is generally the case with very hot people, their faded years have a kind of rumpled-yet-smoldering quality to them. Nick’s a dish.–Joe Reid

Alan Matthews

boy-meets-world-dad
Hulu

Actor: William Russ
Show: Boy Meets World

William Russ is best known for portraying Alan Matthews on Boy Meets World, but his rugged good looks and folksy charm also led to Russ landing roles on Another World and The Young and the Restless, which makes perfect sense. This hot papa has the perfect face for the soap opera racket. When they weren’t too busy rescuing renowned rascal Shawn Hunter from a creepy cult or teaching Cory about the world, Alan and Amy Matthews loved to get their flirt on. Honestly, who could blame them? Alan Matthews was a great dad, adoring husband, and possessed the chiseled features of a burly lumberjack. He put the F in TGIF, if ya know what I mean.–Josh Sorokach

ANTHONY ANDERSON
ABC

Actor: Anthony Anderson
Show: Black-ish

A dad’s primary goals are making sure that his kids have it better than he ever did, and making sure they know where they come from. Dre might be stubborn, he might be embarrassing, and he might be overprotective at times, but those two goals are at the forefront of his noggin 24/7. Dre is an involved dad, for sure, and y’all know there’s nothing hotter than a dad who cares.–BW

Jimmy DiMeo is the quirky, mellow dad of everyone’s dreams, a perfect performer of heart-to-hearts and a lover of a good bargain. He’s a doting, dedicated father, willing to work a job he doesn’t love to ensure his disabled son has whatever he needs, and his affection for his fiery wife only further adds to his appeal. Toss in John Ross Bowie’s comedic sensibilities, and you’ve got the whole DILF package.–JB

Perry Cox

scrubs-dad
Hulu

Actor: John C. McGinley
Show: Scrubs

OK hear me out — Dr. Cox was never the kindest dad, the most supportive partner, or even the most attractive character on Scrubs, but damn is he charming in spite of himself. Dr. Cox may be mean, but he also has some self-destructive sassiness going for him. He’s always on the verge of breaking down because he cares so much, and maybe you could fix him. You can’t, but the appeal is there. If you dated Dr. Cox, you would have a partner who would force you to always be on your quippy A-game. That intellectual foreplay is hot. Plus he loves his kid a ton.–KC

Ben Wyatt

Actor: Adam Scott
Show: Parks & Recreation

You can have your Jim and Pam. Leslie and Ben are the relationship goal I need. Though he started out as a sad stick in the mud with no basically friends, Ben Wyatt blossomed into someone who is essentially the perfect partner. He’s grounded, has clear career aspirations, can party when the situation calls for it, has a delightfully dry sense of humor, is creative (did you see that claymation video?), and most of all he’s hella supportive. Whenever Leslie was spiraling, Ben was there to reel her back in with waffles, Lil Sebastian, and Ruth Bader Ginsberg. And since he basically parented April and Andy for years, you know he’s a great, if not a little strict, dad. Also that cute butt. Ben is a winner, and we’re all lucky to have him on TV.–KC

Actor: Timothy Olyphant
Show: Santa Clarita Diet

If I could pick one word to describe Santa Clarita Diet’s Joel Hammond, it would be, “SWOON.” Timothy Olyphant’s overwhelming handsomeness aside, this character is dreamy beyond belief. You see, when Joel discovers that his wife is a man-eating zombie, he doesn’t give up on her. He sticks by her side and fights for her humanity. Joel Hammond’s dizzying love for his wife lifts Santa Clarita Diet into the realm of romance.–Meghan O’Keefe

Sure, DILF isn’t the first thing you might think of today when you hear the name “Dick Van Dyke,” but back in his heyday, he was the sitcom hunk du jour. It’s not just that Rob Petrie was the prototype for every nerdy hot guy that would grace the small screen for years to come — his modern romance with wife Laura (a young Mary Tyler Moore), was the stuff that sixties’ dreams were made of.–MO

Actor: Terry Crews
Show: Brooklyn Nine-Nine

Yes, Terry Jeffords, is a towering, gorgeous hunk, but what makes him so hot is how he subverts our expectations of what masculinity is supposed to look like. When we first meet the strongman cop, he’s withered in courage because he’s so afraid of being hurt and leaving his darling daughters behind. He might be the muscle in any fight, but he’s the sweetheart of the precinct.–MO

WHO'S THE BOSS? 1984-92, Tony Danza, 1988
Courtesy Everett Collection

Actor: Tony Danza
Show: Who’s the Boss?

You get the feeling that Who’s the Boss? was someone’s idea of a waking fantasy, where Tony Danza from Taxi played an ex-baseball player who moves from Brooklyn to the Connecticut suburbs to take a job as a hunky housekeeper to uptight single mom Judith Light. The show found every opportunity possible to show Tony without a shirt or in a tank top, and between that and the various he-man, couch-lifting feats of cleaning the house, nobody was really complaining. He was basically TV’s great comedic DILF of the ’80s.–JR

Louis Huang

RANDALL PARK
ABC

Actor: Randall Park
Show: Fresh Off the Boat

Louis is not in any way cool, no matter how hard he tries (and he’s even less cool when he tries), but there’s something undeniably attractive about a loyal family man whose dream is to own a steak-and-buffet restaurant. Louis is a great husband and caring dad, which is sexy to us on a primal level, because that’s how evolution works, people! The ones who are attracted to good dads pass their genes on to kids whose good dads keep them alive. There. We just proved Louis is a hot TV dad with science.–JR
