5 Amazing Indie Movies You Can Find On Prime Video

Where to Stream:

The Intervention

Powered by Reelgood

You can really get yourself lost while visiting Amazon. A simple trip to Prime Video to watch an episode of Catastrophe can lead to a delightfully maddening journey down the “Customers Who Watched This Item Also Watched” rabbit hole. Before you know it, two hours have gone by, you haven’t watched a minute of anything, and you landed on IMDB’s My Name is Earl trivia page where you learn that the phrase “son of a bitch” was used once in every episode of the Jason Lee NBC series. Knowledge is power!

You gotta have a plan if you want to make your next streaming session as efficient as possible. With that in mind, we crafted a list of five amazing, under-the-radar indie films that are now available to watch on Prime Video. While we love acclaimed favorites like Obvious Child and Love & Mercy as much as anyone (both titles are also available on Prime Video), we put together a list of films you may have missed. From an indie comedy about a marriage intervention to a trenchant drama centering around a clever protagonist adjusting to life back home, there’s a little something for everybody!

Here are five amazing indie movies you can now find on Prime Video!

1

'The Intervention'

Evoking a bit of the classic ’80s dramedy The Big Chill, The Intervention follows a group of friends on a weekend getaway who decide to host a marriage intervention in the hopes of swaying a quarreling couple to get divorced.

Written and directed by Veep’s Clea DuVall, the novel concept is brought to life by a star-studded cast — which features Ben Schwartz, Alia Shawkat, Cobie Smulders, and Natasha Lyonne among others — and certainly makes the case against minding your own business.

'The New Year'

Trieste Kelly Dunn’s Sunny finds herself back in her hometown and in the midst of a quarter-life crisis in the endearing coming-of-age dramedy The New Year

Caring for her ailing father while working at a bowling alley, Sunny begins to reassess her relationship with her boyfriend when she begins to develop romantic feelings for an old classmate. The New Year is indie filmmaking done right as it deals with the uneasiness of your early twenties with a delicate blend of humor and heart.

'Forev'

Before Noël Wells was charming audiences in Master of None, the comedic dynamo was starring in the quirky indie comedy Forev!

The film follows the impulsive engagement between two neighbors and the myriad romantic calamities that follow during a spur-of-the-moment road trip. This unconventional romcom is elevated by the mesmerizing chemistry between Wells and costar Matt Mider as it tackles love and dating in a fun, unique manner.

'Nobody Walks in L.A.'

I LOVE the idea behind the plot to the breezy indie flick Nobody Walks in LA.

Two friends faced with difficult life decisions decide to press pause on their life to spend the day galavanting around Los Angeles. Actors Kim Shaw and Adam Shapiro shine as two (are they potentially more than just…) friends who just need a break from the relentless rigmarole known as adulthood. The endearing duo prove that misery indeed loves company as they find solace in each other’s problems while enjoying the scenic splendor of L.A.

'A Year and Change'

You can never really go wrong with a film starring indie movie stalwart Bryan Greenberg. The dude just oozes charisma. The former One Tree Hill actor stars as a man looking for redemption in the entertaining drama A Year and Change. After falling off the roof at a New Year’s Eve party, Greenberg’s character Owen decides to quit drinking, become a better father, and find hope in a new makeshift family of his own creation.
