CHI STORIES

CHI Stories are what come after “Really? I'd love to hear more about that.”

News!  Due to some last minute visa approvals, we now have a few available slots open for daily rentals at the early registration rate of $300 a day. It’s a terrific opportunity to try out a novel technology. It’s also a great way to bring groups of grad students to CHI who may not otherwise be able to attend - student rates are available at $400 for the entire conference. Email the telepresence chairs at telepresence@chi2017.acm.org for details.

We will be providing the opportunity for a small number of people to remotely attend the CHI conference via telepresence technologies.  Our goal is to increase access to the conference for remote participants who would otherwise be unable to attend due to mobility impairments, chronic health issues, or temporary travel limitations.

If selected to remotely attend CHI, you will be able to participate in talks and other CHI activities via a Beam Pro telepresence robot provided and managed by Event Presence.  The telepresence robot is made by Suitable Technologies and will allow you to appear on the screen, maneuver in the conference venue, attend talks, and mingle with other participants.

How Can I Participate?

If you are interested in this opportunity, please fill out this application form by March 31, 2017. Applying early will help us better understand and prepare for remote attendance needs.   We will notify you of the application results by April 17, 2017. If you are selected to participate, we will contact you with more details on how to register for the conference.

The registration cost will be the same as the in-person registration cost for attending the conference.  Remote attendance was offered at CHI 2016 at a reduced cost so we could test out the experience.  This year we will be charging full conference registration fees for remote attendance.  If there are special circumstances and this does not meet your needs, please contact the telepresence chairs to discuss your situation.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us at telepresence@chi2017.acm.org.
