Guess Who Could Be Remaking ‘An American Werewolf in London’? (Exclusive)

An American Werewolf in London

The most difficult subgenre to tackle, in my opinion anyways, is that of the lycanthrope. I don’t know what it is about werewolf movies, but they’re so difficult to get right, which is why it’s always exciting to get new additions like Late Phases or Howl.

While Ginger Snaps may be my own person favorite werewolf film, there’s no argument that John Landis’ 1981 An American Werewolf in London, which won an Oscar for “Best Makeup” (Rick Baker), is the gold standard.

With nearly everything being remade, it shouldn’t shock any of us to learn that An American Werewolf in London, too, is getting the reboot.

We’ve been poking around this for quite some time, but it’s been all but confirmed by the writer behind it – Max Landis. Yes, John’s son, who scripted the awesome Chronicle, as well as Victor Frankenstein and the upcoming “Channel Zero” on Syfy, is allegedly penning a modern take on his father’s classic. Here’s his tweet, which has since been deleted:

Update: After this morning’s speculation, Max has since denied the report, although we can confirm that he was in fact developing this project for his father. It’s unclear if he’s working on this or something else as well.

The question is, will it be called An American Werewolf in London or just simply American Werewolf, which would avoid rights issues? I love how easily this franchise could expand… An American Werewolf inJapan? Hawaii? Mexico? Ohio? What we do know is that the project is now at Universal after originally being announced over at Dimension.

Whatever the case, I like Landis’ work, and think that it’s sort of cool that he’s revisiting his father’s classic. And for the record, I’m not anti-remake…I’m anti-bad movies. Landis is a really good writer. Feel good about this.

And just for fun, let’s take a look back to two years ago when Landis hilariously reenacted David Naughton’s transformation scene in a spoof for Cinefix…

Update #2: Bloody-Disgusting has known that Landis has been working on this project for quite a while but what we just learned is that the intention has always been for him to direct! Watch this spot for official news as it comes in.

‘The Crow’ – Gnarly Clip Showcases the ‘John Wick’-Style Action

We’re just one month away from the release of Lionsgate’s The Crow in theaters, a fresh new take on the iconic tale with Bill Skarsgård (IT) taking over the titular role.

The Crow brings the franchise back to theaters on August 23. While you wait, Lionsgate has released a clip this week that shows just how indestructible Eric Draven really is.

The new movie is rated “R” for…

“Strong bloody violence, gore, language, sexuality/nudity, and drug use.”

From director Rupert Sanders, Skarsgård leads the cast of The Crow, with FKA Twigs co-starring in the reboot. Danny Huston (30 Days of Night) also stars, alongside Laura Birn (Foundation), Sami Bouajila (A Son), and Jordan Bolger (The Woman King).

In the new movie, “Soulmates Eric Draven (Skarsgård) and Shelly Webster (FKA Twigs) are brutally murdered when the demons of her dark past catch up with them. Given the chance to save his true love by sacrificing himself, Eric sets out to seek merciless revenge on their killers, traversing the worlds of the living and the dead to put the wrong things right.”

Zach Baylin (King Richard) and Will Schneider wrote the script, with the new movie of course based on James O’Barr’s original graphic novel that spawned a previous film franchise.

In the 1994 movie starring the late Brandon Lee, Eric Draven’s fiancée is killed alongside Draven, setting the film’s revenge storyline into motion. It spawned a handful of sequels.
