Planning a Special Event
The Town of Banff hosts a number of events throughout the year, everything from large scale destination events to small community gatherings. To help us assist you in planning the event and following all requirements of organizing activities in a national park, please complete the event application form, in the destination event or community event section, linked below.
Events may include sports/wellness events, food and beverage events, farmers markets, seasonal or craft markets, cultural/music or performance events, public demonstrations, public engagement for opinion input or public education, or a combination of some of these types. Please complete the event application as soon as possible or consult with the events team on your proposal.
Destination Event
Destination Events include large-scale events held at multiple locations around the Town of Banff, and may include a road closure. These include events like the Banff Marathon, Canada Day, NYE, SnowDays, WinterStart Road Race and other large events that attract visitors as well as community members.
Community Event
Community Events are smaller scale events geared towards the residents of Banff and may include a park or facility rental. These include events like the Mountain Madness Relay Race, the Homegrown Art Show, the Terry Fox Run, local fundraisers and other non-profit activities for residents.
Events on Private Property
If you're holding an event on private property that's open to the public, and it is likely to affect traffic, parking or involve activities not normally permitted on the property, you're required to complete an application with the Town of Banff. An example is the Banff Christmas Market at the Banff Trail Riders stable.
