This film is peak 1990s: the editing, the music, the cinematography, the whole aesthetic is amazing. Although this movie is not grounded in reality, that's not why we're here. Like all good movies, it is about the ride, and this one is a great roller coaster. The 4K release is 100% worth it. The picture is fantastic, as is the sound.

Ok, so, objectively you could say that this movie is kind of bad. The acting is so-so, the story is silly, the writing is not amazing, and some of the graphics and visuals are pretty rough. A professional critic would likely give this a bad rating. And they'd be right.

However, this movie is also amazing. It has an incredibly unique vision, and you can tell that everyone involved in making it knew they were part of something special - it's stylish and stylized moreso than almost any other film i've seen before. The soundtrack is incredible, and the fashion is so absurd and over the top that it's almost timeless, it still looks futuristic and cool despite being clearly influenced by dated trends. Same with the technology and the visuals, it's so stylish that even though some of the specific technology they mention is ancient now, it doesn't feel dated.

The core of the story, while a bit silly, is still quite heartfelt and fun. The spirit of true hacking does shine through, and the camaraderie between all the main characters works really well, even despite some varying levels of acting skill.

This is a movie you put on, get some popcorn, and watch with your friends. You'll be laughing at it sometimes, and even cringing a couple times at a few jokes that land a bit poorly in 2024, but it never ceases to be entertaining. It's played with such heartfelt excitement for hacking, fashion, music, technology, and spectacle, and it doesn't take itself too seriously, that you can't help but be drawn into it.

Highly recommended.

Hackers is a bit of a Cult Classic and popular among 1990's Computer Science Hacking fiends. This movie is real good if you want a 'slight of tongue' comedy; exploring 'exaggerated' cyber-crime mischief using the 90's top notch cinema effects. The effects are cheese compared to todays standards. Completely forgot laptops were 4 inches thick with only 16kb of RAM.

The cast is quite famous, all young then, but big names and big parts now. Like, Johnny Lee Miller who later played Sherlock Holmes in Elementary. A young Angelina Jolie making her break here. Matthew Lillard, who later played Shaggy in Scooby Doo live action movies. List goes on.

An absolutely classic 90s movie. If you love tech, video games, unique fashion and personalities, you will love this movie. Not to mention Angelina is so beautiful in this, ayne never looked better.

If you’re currently in the process of trying to hack the Gibson then you need this 4k copy of this movie. Once you get it in and you watch it you’ll be fully prepared to hack the Gibson and delete the recycle bin icon off their desk top #HTP

When watching this back in 1995 I was in the crux of my H@xx0r days and ran a BBS called "Free World" in Belville, IL. It's a great movie, and most of the hack stuff is based in truth, but not too much truth to tell you how to hack. My big brother, myself, my little brother, and my big brother's friend went to watch this movie together in the theater. And of course right after the movie we went to pretty much every UPS/fed ex drop boxes in St. Louis, MO and Belville, IL and hacked them. Then we went dumpster diving at large businesses before they learned to shred info, and lock up the dumpster. You would be surprised the stuff we found in the trash.

Anyhow, I ran a BBS with big brother called "Free World". Think of a BBS as a web page. We have 4 lines and there was always at least 3 lines going, with a 4th line going most of the time too. It was the best BBS in IL/MO in my opinion. Anyhow, back to the tone dialer. They were sold in case the pay phones buttons didn't work. You would put the speaker up to the phone and dial that way. We hacked it though and stuck in another chip to mimic the noise from dropping a quarter instead of being a tone dialer. There were many many other hacks you could do, and hacking in the early to mid 90s, before AOL and CompuServe there were BBSs (Bulletin Board System) and I was a co-sysop (system operator). A BBS was like a web page. That's it, just one page, but from that one page you had so much you could do and info was shared freely. What we did was called PHP (Phreaking/Hacking/Pirating). It was the glory days of hacking, and this movie brings back a lot of memories.

I love this movie and this is such a great transfer. Notice tonnes of details in the movie I hadn't before and I've seen this movie ALOT. sucks having to import 4k's into Australia, but amazon makes it relatively easy for must have movies, bonus disc is wrong region for Australia so you will be sitting there wondering if your BLT drive went AWOL. So time to get off the phone to Venezuela, grab some fries and sip on your jolt cola and relive the 90's with the best sound track ever made. I guess I could have just said, it's Elite.
